Ermita de San RoqueThis was constructed in honour of the patron saint of the town in the sixteenth century. With walls of masonry and bricks, it is built in the barroque style.
Ermita de San AntónConstructed over the original, which dated from the eleventh century, it is without doubt the oldest religious building in the town.
This church was part of the ancient Hospital de la Misericordia, founded in th seventeenth century. Built in a Baroque style with a brick façade.
Convento de San AgustínDates from the fifteenth century. During the eighteenth century it was a centre of learning, with chairs in theology, grammar and latin. In 1842 it was converted into the law court and jail for the area. It was reconstructed in 1982 to become a Parador.
Convento de las ClarisasFounded in 1653 by the fifth count. It comprises a church, in the sytle of the famous architect Herrerro, and the convent with its outstanding cloisers in two levels with galleries.
Casa de la Cadena (The Chain House)This barroque building, to be found in the centre of the town, dates from the end of the seventeenth century. The King Felipe V spent the night of the 25 february 1706 here.
Plaza MayorA classic mediaeval square, dating from the fifteenth century, famous for its form, its colonnade and its 234 balconies.
Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la AsunciónBuilt in the fifteenth century. It has a mixture of styles, from the gothic to the baroque. The alta principal boasts the magnificent painting by Goya "La Asunción de la Virgen".
Torre del Reloj (The Clock Tower)Part of the ancient church Nuestra Señora de Gracia, which was destroyed in the war of Independence. The tower was restored in 1713 but the church was buried beneath the southwest part of the Plazuela de Palacio.
Teatro Lope de VegaBuilt in 1891 by the Society of winemakers. It was here that Lope wrote and signed his work "El Blasón de los Chaves". Its curtain carries a marvellous painting of the Plaza Mayor.
Residence of the Counts of Cabrera until 1520 it was badly damaged during the attack by the "quiñoneros". The third count demolished it and constructed the present building between 1590 and 1598. Seen as a plan the castle is made up of two rectangles: the principal part contains some beautiful rooms. It has a central patio and the vaults beneath contain dungeons.
