Chinchón candidate again!

On the 7th of june, the yearly enactmentment of the "Via Crucis" by the people of the village of Chinchón was declaraded candidate to become one of the 10 treasures of the Inmaterial Cultural Heritage of Spain. The International Bureau of Cultural Capital (www.ibocc.org) has developed the initiative of selecting the 10 treasures as part of its initiatives to promote, publisize, preserve and raise awareness of the rich inmaterial cultural spanish heritage.

Upto now, next to the "Pasion", the following candidates have been declared: "El Finlandon" of the city of Leon, the legend of "the Lizard of Malena" from Jaén, "El Txistu" from the Basque Country, the celebration of "El Curpillos" from Burgos, the tradition of "La Virgin del Pilar" from Zaragoza, the International Festival of Santander, the singing of "el Canto de la Sibilla" from Mallorca, the "Flamenco Bienale" of Sevilla, the "Silbo Gomero", or the "la Rapa das Bestas" from Sabucedo, the celebration of "Los Sanfermines", the "Tribunal de las Aguas" of Valencia, the counsel of "Hombres Buenos" of Murcia, the Cádiz celebration of Carnaval, the Classic Theatre Festival of Mérida, the pilgrimage route "Camino de Santiago", the Teruel legend "de los amantes", the Horse Fair of Jerez de la Frontera, New Year´s Eve celebration in Puerta del Sol of Madrid, Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnaval and "el Jarramplas y la Danza de los zancos" from Anguiano.

The inmaterial cultural heritage is defined by UNESCO as the use, representation, expression, crafts and techniques that a community, group or in some cases individuals recognize as an integral part of their cultural heritage.
